Travel to Nationals

As a service to our national delegates, we have reserved a block of airline seats and hotel rooms at competitive rates. We have a limited number of airline seats and hotel rooms booked, and they will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Participants, chaperones, teachers and members of the participants' immediate families may take advantage of these rates. Participants are not required to travel with the state delegation or use the group air or hotel blocks.

The state office does not take reservations or make travel arrangements for delegates or their families/chaperones. Participants must make their own travel reservations; see below for how to reserve airline seats and/or hotel rooms in the Colorado History Day block.

All students must be accompanied by a chaperone at all times during travel and while at the national contest.

Note: The following rates apply for travel and lodging for the 2008 national competition.

HOTEL

Comfort Inn
9020 Baltimore Avenue
College Park, Maryland

We have booked 30 suites with a king bed and pull-out sofa bed ($129.00 per night plus 10% tax), and 10 rooms with king bed ($109.00 per night plus 10% tax). There is an extra fee of $10 per person per room. These rates include continental breakfast.

The hotel is close to campus - a 20-minute walk - and a hotel shuttle is available that can take guests to campus or the Metro.

Participants may also choose to stay in the dorms - which are not air-conditioned. For more information and to reserve a dorm room, please refer to your NHD registration materials.

HOTEL ACCOMODATIONS MUST BE RESERVED BY MAY 14.

GROUND TRANSPORTATION

Participants must make their own arrangements for all ground transportation. Options include car rental, airport shuttle, Metro bus and subway, or taxi service. Please be aware that the University of Maryland campus and the hotel are roughly 2 miles from the nearest Metro subway station. There are free shuttles to the Metro from both campus and the Comfort Inn. Many participants find that car rental is an economical and convenient option for transport from the airport and around College Park, to the Metro, and to other attractions outside downtown Washington. You may reserve a rental car through Custom Travel as part of your larger travel package.

TO MAKE YOUR RESERVATIONS

You may choose to reserve air and/or hotel under the Colorado History Day group blocks. Airfare must be reserved and paid for by the close of business on Friday, May 9th. Hotel reservations may be made until May 14. Airline seats and hotel space is limited.  To confirm your reservations, please contact:
