Contest Information

Students research a historical topic of interest to them that relates to a broad annual theme. They then create a project to convey the results of their research and analysis, in one of five categories: 2008 Contest Slide Show

  • dramatic performances
  • imaginative exhibits
  • multimedia documentaries
  • research papers (Note: the paper category is for individual participants only; no groups)
  • interactive web sites

These projects are then evaluated at local, state, and national competitions.

Contest Divisions:

  • Junior Division (grades 6-8)
  • Senior Division (grades 9-12)
In each division, students may participate as individuals or in groups of two to five.

Regional Contests

Important!

Students must first compete in their regional contests, held throughout Colorado in early spring. Regional winners are then eligible to attend Colorado History Day. Click here to find out when and where your nearest regional contest will take place.

State Contest

Colorado History Day, typically held in late spring, gives regional winners the opportunity to compete on a broader level. First and second place winners in the state contest are eligible to attend the National History Day competition in June. Click here to find out more about the state competition.

National History Day

Typically held in June, this event is the culmination of the year's research and practice. Individuals and teams from around the country converge in a single day of presentations. Click here to find out how to qualify for the national competition.
