Interested in Volunteering?

Volunteers are the key component that make the state competition a huge success! We depend on students and community members to help in a variety of aspects of contest logistics and public relations for the 700+ teachers, students, and families that visit the Auraria campus on May 1st. We thank you in advance for considering History Day voluntarism!

So Should I Expect?

The main requirement for being a volunteer is a friendly face to welcome participants, their parents and their teachers to the Auraria campus and the competition. Flexibility is also good, in case an unexpected need comes up that day

Time commitment: Varies depending on the task, but generally from 3-4 hours on the day of the competition

Timing:Please let us know by April 16 if you would like to volunteer for the state competition. We will send out email confirmations giving your volunteer time and job starting the week of April 20.

Training:You will receive an email confirming your job, with a description of the responsibilities

Available jobs:Typical jobs include helping with registration, helping participants locate their competition rooms, running the information booth or tee-shirt dispersal, helping with exhibit setup and protection, preparing participant and judge packets

If you would like to volunteer but are not available on the day of the competition, there are many jobs for the day before the competition. In addition, there are other volunteer opportunities that come up during the spring semester

Important for University of Colorado Denver Students!
If you are a student at UC-Denver, there may be opportunities for earning extra credit in your history class by volunteering for History Day. Check with your professor. While we have a lot of volunteer opportunities, we cannot guarantee that we will have enough jobs available to give jobs to all who wish to earn extra credit. We will make jobs available on a first-come, first-served basis.

What we provide: snacks the day of the competition, training, the chance to meet young people who are excited about history, perhaps extra credit for your history class, and a big thank-you

Let us know:Your preferred time period to work at the competition, and whether you have special skills (e.g., computer skills, artistic skills) that we may be able to use.
